How to Learn Japanese – A Rocket Review

Hey everyone, in case you don’t know me, my name is Nick and I’ve got a question for you today:

Do you want to know how to speak and read Japanese?

Well, I sure hope you said yes, because I’d like to help you achieve the level of success that you want with your Japanese studies.

You might be like me, a non-native Japanese person who really enjoys things like anime, manga, JRPGs, or any other number of cool things that originate from Japan – Like the Kawaii Metal Band BABYMETAL!

I wanted to learn Japanese so that I could have greater access to the things from Japan that I loved and enjoyed so much. And maybe you have a similar reason for wanting to learn.

Different Ways to Learn

There are a lot of different ways that teach you how to learn Japanese. There are text books, phrase books, classes, audio CDs, tutors for hire, online courses you can enroll in, and on, and on, and on! I think you get the picture.

Each one of these resources has their own unique advantages and disadvantages that help separate them from one another. That’s why very often, a person who is learning a language will use several of them at once.

For example, you buy an audio CD and learn to speak a little Japanese, but you still don’t know how to read. So now you have to go out and buy a book on it. It can be quite a hassle.

I’ve gone through quite a few of the courses myself and I have a whole shelf dedicated to my many Japanese books. But I’m going to do you a favor right now and tell you about the best that I’ve found.

Make no mistake, there are many good ones, but unfortunately there isn’t enough time to use them all. So without further ado, let’s dive right into my review of Rocket Japanese!

Rocket Languages – Who Are They?

Rocket Languages is one of the premiere language learning companies. They’ve been around for over a decade – since 2004!

Using scientific and practical strategies for language learning, they have taught over a dozen different languages to over 1 million people!

That’s a lot of people who have put their trust in Rocket Languages. If they’ve been able to help over a million people, then what they do must actually work! Not just in the classroom, but out in the real world too.

Let’s be honest. If you were going to climb Mount Everest, you would want the best guide to take you to the top. It’s common sense, right? In the same way, if you want to learn a language, then you want the best company, the best system, and the best course to learn from.

So, now that you know who Rocket Languages is, let’s look at what The Rocket Japanese Course is all about.

What You Will learn

What do most people want when they learn a new language? Well, I think you’d agree that most people want to be able to speak the language, and the more fluently the better. This is a core skill that is needed and almost everyone teaches. You gotta be able to do it. But isn’t it true that listening is also a vital skill?

Of course the answer is yes. How can you respond back to a real person if you’re not sure what they said? Especially since not everybody talks or sounds the same way. Sometimes they’ve got a little accent. Sometimes they EXAGGERATE certain words. You’ve got to be able to recognize what they’re saying, especially when they sound a little differently than what you’re used to.

One of the advantages of this course is that you will gain the skill of listening – something that a book cannot teach you.

How about reading and writing? Are those important? Well, of course they are. They are vital! Let me ask you something. How would your life be now if you couldn’t read or write English? Well for one thing, you wouldn’t even be able to read this review!

I think you would agree that if you couldn’t read or write, your life would be pretty crappy. Yeah, you could get by, but come one. Who the heck want’s to “just get by”? We want to enjoy life!

Life is much richer and more fulfilling when you are able read and write.

What else are you going to learn? How about the culture? Isn’t it true that a country’s language and culture are intertwined? They way people speak affects the way people think. And the way people think creates their culture and way of life.

So, to sum it all up. You will learn:

How to Speak Japanese

How to Listen to Japanese

How to Read Japanese

How to Write Japanese

The Japanese Culture

This is the complete package. In other words, you will receive a full education on the Japanese language.

How You Will Learn

You might be thinking, “this sounds good and all, but I’ve tried to learn before and it didn’t work. Why should this time be any different?” Well let me ask you, have you ever heard the saying “it’s not WHAT you do, but HOW you do it”?

Hey, everyone is different. One learning method doesn’t work for all people all the time. But there are a few different learning methods that have been repeatedly proven to work for most people pretty much every time.

In fact, as I mentioned before, the different methods used by the Rocket Languages System have helped over 1 million people so far. If they can do it, then you can do it too!

To be specific, Rocket Japanese will use 7 Success Strategies to accelerate your learning and to ensure that what you learn is integrated deep into your mind.

Let’s take a look at one of them now: Maintain MOTIVATION and have fun while you learn… isn’t it true that you work harder at and spend more time doing things that you find fun and enjoyable?

If it’s fun, you’ll do it everyday. If it’s fun, you’ll work harder. And if it’s fun, you’ll stick with it until the end.

You know, the interesting thing is that we as human beings don’t normally like to do hard stuff. We tend to avoid it. But for whatever reason, we are perfectly willing to do something hard as long as we have a lot fun while doing it.

That’s the whole reason why it’s so important to make language learning into a game. And that is exactly what Rocket Japanese does with its lessons.

The more you do it, the better you get at it. Soon enough it becomes easy!

Where You Will Learn

I’m sure you are a busy person. It’s okay, I am too. Most of us are these days. Doing something like going to a classroom three times a week can be a really big obstacle. That’s why being able to learn in your own home is such a huge benefit.

Rocket Japanese works on your computer wherever you are. You simply log into your account online and choose any lesson that you want to take. There is also the option to download the lesson if you plan on using it offline at some point.

The best part is that you can get access to all the materials immediately. As in Right Now!

But you know what? We spend a lot of time away from home during the day. I know that’s certainly true for me. And it just might be true for you too. Wouldn’t it be great if you could practice your Japanese anywhere? Like maybe the next time you’re stuck in traffic? Or waiting for a loved one to finish shopping?

Well, you can!

Of course there is an app for that! Both on the iOS and Android mobile devices and it works perfectly for you! It’s great because it has a lot of versatility to it. You can practice speaking and listening in your car while you’re driving or you can practice reading and writing while you wait in line for something.

What Do Other People Think?

You know what? You shouldn’t just take my word for it. Why do I say that? Well because I can only speak from my own experience of using Rocket Japanese. Maybe someone else has a different experience. Or maybe they have a similar one.

Here are what other people say about it:

So Who Is This For?

If you’re a beginner, than this is for you. This is where you want to start.

If you’re at an intermediate level, then this is for you. This is where you will want to continue. This will help to to get to the next level.

This course has an incredible amount of material that will take you from beginner level to advanced and beyond.

You know, I’ve tried quite a few of the other courses out there and while they were good, I always felt like they were missing something.

Some of them were all audio and never taught you how to read and write. Others only ever used one type of leaning method like immersion, and made you struggle unnecessarily when you didn’t get something right away.

Rocket Japanese provides a FULL Education.

That’s why I prefer it over anything else. You don’t have to bounce between material in order to learn all the different aspects of the language. You can get it all in one place. Whenever and wherever you want to.

Plus, there is no “subscription” like some of the other courses. You purchase it once, and it’s yours forever.

And of course there is a 60 Day Money Back Guarantee. You have 60 days to try it out and fall in love with it or your money back. No questions asked, no hassles, and no risk. If you don’t like it, just let them know and they will give you a full refund.

So, are you ready?

But let me ask you a question. If not now, then when?

When will you be ready? When will you take action and get the help and the tools you need to really learn Japanese in a way that’s right for you?

Is it tomorrow?

Next week?

A year from now?

The easy answer is this: never. Because if you don’t take action when you have the opportunity, then you won’t take action ever.

Look, you said that you wanted to learn to speak and read Japanese. Otherwise you wouldn’t have continued reading this far. Rocket Languages would like to honor your willingness to check it out with a few special gifts.

Hi there. Thank you for providing a very in-depth article here. Obviously, learning Japanese isn’t easy, but with Rocket Language you can definitely learn it faster because Rocket Language is one of the premiere language learning companies. I 100% agree with you because couple of my friends use it and it is very helpful.

  • Anh Nguyen

    Hey there,

I’ve taken up Japanese a few times but I’m still at the most beginner level, unfortunately. And it seems Rocket Japanese is a way to learn the language on your own. I will be sure to check it out.

To you, how long it will take before you can decently read in Japanese? I have an especially tough time with Kanji, unlike the alphabet they have no single patterns to memorise from.

    Thanks for sharing!

    • Nick

Hey Anh, I’m glad to hear that! If you want to check it out before purchasing it, click on the link below and you can get the free trial version.

As for how long it takes to learn the Kanji, first let me let me say that Japanese people themselves don’t normally finish learning it until they graduate from high school!

Now, having said that, I have read some really inspiring stories from people who have learned them in as little as 3 months. Unbelievable! But very cool.

Basically, it’s all about HOW you learn them that determines the rate at which you do. I personally use mnemonics such as the ones taught in Kanji in MangaLand to help me and it makes it a lot easier I think.

If that’s something you’re interested in, check it out! I will also create a new post discussing this topic to help you and others out.

  • Pitin

    Hi there,

I studied Japanese and I am a little bit rusty now because of not using the language often. I intend to re-learn the basics again. I have already passed the JLPT Level 4, and I wish to continue studying until I pass JLPT Level 1. The most difficult I always feel is the listening and speaking part. Do you get to speak with native professors as well? Reading and writing I feel is easy to learn.

    • Nick

Hey Pitin, that is a great question and the answer is: Absolutely yes! In fact, two out of the seven success strategies are exactly what you asked.

Success Stratey #4. Practice SPEAKING and SOUNDING like a native… Using Rocket Record!

Success Strategy #6. Have a strong support network… Which gives you unlimited 24/7 online access to:

      1) Japanese teachers (including Rocket Japanese tutor, Sayaka)

      2) Native speakers

      3) And fellow Japanese enthusiasts

  • Dejan

    Hello there,
I have been trying to learn a new language in my free time, but because I have so little free time it’s quite hard. Something like this would be probably perfect for me. Do you know if they offer courses for other languages as well ? I would be most interested in German probably, since I might go work there.
